I asked our children which books/characters they knew better…

  • Harry Potter or Percy Jackson?
  • The Hobbit or Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe?
  • Bernstein Bears or Veggie Tales?
  • Super heros (Superman, Batman, Flash) vs the One True God?

What was that? Yep. Do you know any or all of these better than your Savior, I ask them. They slowly nodded yes.

Friends, when we know movie actor better than our Lord or a book character better than Christ I think that’s alarming!! I’m guess you are starting to as well.

Last week, I realized how much time we spent on entertainment and compared with how much we’ve integrated our faith life. We came up lacking. Furthermore, it was me who set the standard. 🙁 Ugh! Self-evaluation is uncomfortable.

Over the years my faith has grown in leaps and bounds. It has shaped and molded my decisions. But I don’t share my growth with other people. I’ve kept it private. Why? I’m not entirely sure. Fear, I guess.

I seem to be assume that because I’m growing and changing then others are just as busy doing the same. When I realized some of our kids didn’t know what I was talking about in matters of faith I was blown away. They know the stories of the Bible but not the integration of faith. To be fair some of our children are new to our family and matters of faith are new too. Regardless, it was an eye opener when they all “knew the Fruits of the Spirit” but didn’t know how to apply them their daily actions. Time to change that.

It’s time to set our priorities straight. Priorities Bootcamp starts tomorrow!
